We were up in Sussex at the weekend, so Daisy the dog, Ali and I did some exploring in the woodland near where Ali lives in Rotherfield.

According to local historical records from 1839, Turks Farm and its surrounding land were originally part of Lord Abergavenny’s country estate. Now the land is privately owned and the current owners allow public access to the extensive woodlands around the farm itself.

The farm’s property borders land owned by The Woodland Trust, called Old Lodge Warren; where the woods are lined with WWII era “pill box” gun emplacements and tank traps, apparently designed to repel any invading German artillery trying to sneak up the small river valley to capture the village.

Ok, Daisy, show us the way…
